OUCH tracks student progress through personal threads on our forum called "Student Folders". Here's a couple of quotes from fanaka's brother's folder.MDK-1 wrote:Background Info: Well I have don't have much experience with PVP in Eve apart from knowing how to avoid being popped by warping to a safe spot. I will be a module 6 onwards student. How delightful. I guess that MDK and his brother have psychic powers, since our course content is not public.
So when MDK-1 was off doing his own thing in low sec, and some of our instructors asked him if he read the rules, his brother stepped in to set us straight.Quote:[22:29:06] Bren Genzan > MDK [22:29:52] MDK-1 > hello this is mdk's brother i'm sat here watching this, and tbh you need to revise some of your protocol [22:30:02] Bren Genzan > I dont think you're going to work out [22:30:14] Bren Genzan > what protocols do we need to revise? Many students leave their corps, complete our course and go back home to their old corps. Some make alts, join OUCH and do the training with them. Up to you really. We don't care if you, the player, are in two corporations, but you have to have one character in OUCH, capable of taking classes in high sec, in order to receive training.

You know the saying: Don't fly anything you can't afford to lose. I would say, in null, it's a better idea not to fly anything you can't afford to replace a half dozen times.
A lot of people spend a lot of time building up a war chest so they can afford all of the shiny ships that they know they are going to lose when they start venturing into low sec and null.
OUCH students fly T1 frigates while they learn the ropes. As the Brit's say, they're cheap as chips.

Yes, if you're looking to join OUCH as a student, take our courses over a few weeks while following the rules of the corp. All you have to do is apply. It's that easy
No, if you're looking to join OUCH to become an instructor and you believe that you're too experienced to go through our program. We don't equate skill points or years playing Eve with actual knowledge and experience.
In other words, we believe that as experienced as you might think you are, you just don't know what you don't know
OUCH instructors are home grown. We all have our OUCH training as the foundation that we are building on from. We're not elite, but we are professional, and if you want to be a part of it, you gotta come in at the ground floor. Life On The Bubble |

Sometimes I get a convo asking me if we are still recruiting. I always laugh at the thought.
OUCH is never recruiting: We advertise a service to teach you tactics that should help you learn to survive in in null sec space.
There's a reason it's called Open University. If you want to learn, all you need to do to join is ask.
Open enrollment. No hidden fees. All we ask is you be patient and follow our corporate policies and regulations while you are with us. Stay for a while, get trained and leave, if staying and training others is not what you want to do.
We don't have drama. We don't want a ton of members to fund our corporate expenses. Honestly, we kick out half of our enrollment for failing to train, or for failing to follow our regulations.
Join us and train. Fail to train, you're gone. We don't encourage our players to waste their time, and we definitely waste our time on people who don't really want the training we give.
There is no catch.
We're the real deal. Life On The Bubble |

One of the issues living in null is prices on a lot of popular things can be very expensive, but there are bargains to be found on items out here. Fire sales happen, especially when people pick up and move to the next region.
But unlike Empire, chances are high that the seller of your brand new cruiser is sitting outside the station, waiting for you to undock so he can test the hull of your ship.
But don't worry, you don't have to go without, you just have to be prepared when you make your pick ups. Life On The Bubble |

Quote:what's with everyone and falcons does anybody want a straight up fight? That was asked to us in Local last night, by a guy who deliberately came at us, looking for trouble. Let me answer it here:
No.
This is Eve and welcome to Curse.
The only people who engage in combat that don't think that they have the edge and will win, are people who have little experience in player to player combat. Experienced PvPers think they have better skills, a better ship, a better fit, or better tactics that will see them through the fight. Or they know that reinforcements are coming.
That means if you're flying a battlecruiser and your opponent is flying a frigate... and he engages you... he knows something you don't know.

Last night our frigate and cruiser fleet caught a Domi, pounded him 50 percent into armor, and yes, Virginia, he popped a cyno.
Didn't see that coming.
Titan Bridge FTW? A fleet of HACs and BCs incoming? Blackops gang? We get those once or twice a week, the students love it.
But no, Virginia, all we got was a solo Nyx. For the uninitiated, that's a supercarrier. And since our little gang didn't have the DPS for that, we let him go.
It's times like these I wish I had a Bat Phone.
The irony of it is, we've seen better: PL used a Bait carrier to drop 3 Nyxs and a pair of Aeons on us few months ago.

When OUCH went onto the top 10k sometime last year, that was pretty cool. Since then, our Battleclinic rank has been steadily rising, with joining the top 1000 corps coming up as our next milestone.
Alliance ranks go much much more slowly, but AWA just dropped into the top 200 alliances on Battleclinic. We're number 197 overall and number 88 for recent activity, which I think is over the last 90 days. Battleclinic kills AND losses are part of the ranking system.
Not bad for a bunch of guys bubble camping with newbies, who I might add, have to learn how to travel through Curse, one of the toughest regions in New Eden.
Great job everyone! Life On The Bubble |

Here's a tip: Take the time to skill up 3 levels in Infomorph Psychology, which allows you to use Jump Clones. Then join Estel Arador and get a couple of high sec jump clones.
Then join OUCH.
Later on, when you're ready to get you're feet wet in null, but realize that it's dumb to risk a head full of high cost implants, you can jump into a clean clone and have at it. Life On The Bubble |

One of the most important things that OUCH teaches is confidence. Yesterday, the guys were on a roam with our neighbors. A few of us wanted to play too, so we jumped in frigs and started chasing the gang, a dozen jumps away, dodging 'dictors and Dramiels on the way to join the fleet.
When you're playing "catchup to the gang" you should have no worries, no stress, and no lost ships. Life On The Bubble |

I can't answer that question for you, but I can tell you that what OUCH does is unique.
We provide basic training in null survival and pvp. It's really that simple.

For the past two years, the members of OUCH have been working toward the establishing the Open University of Celestial Hardship as an Eve Institution. It's a work still in progress, but we've come to believe that our supportive small core membership, our focused purpose, and our slow organic growth is the reason why we're still doing what we're doing: providing quality null sec survival and basic PvP training, at little to no cost to the student.

A lot of people contact me and ask if OUCH is still teaching? The answer to that is always, "Yes."
Sometimes though, I get asked if OUCH is still recruiting. It's hard not to say "No", but the honest answer is OUCH never is recruiting. Even this thread is more of an advertisement of a service vice recruitment propaganda.
When you join OUCH, you're enrolling into a training program. It's an Open enrollment. You have 90 days to complete the course. We don't charge a fee. We just ask that our students stay out of null sec and low sec until they've been trained to operate there, and fly the ships that they are authorized to fly where they're authorized to fly them.
We don't even recruit staff: Graduates of our program that want to stay apply to join our team as an Instructor. If accepted, they stick around to pass along what they have learned to the next guy while they work on the next stage of their personal development. Our students are encouraged to find the corp that's right for them.
So, if that sounds like something you want to do with your Eve, all you have to do is apply. Life On The Bubble |

But even with us taking nights off from PvP, making jaunts to high sec to teach, mine and mission, ducking into wormholes to explore, January is the month with the second most kills for OUCH in the last 10 months, and third most kills in a month EVER.

Tonight, our EWAR supported frigate/cruiser gang took on a Hurricane, Drake and a Sabre. We primaried the Sabre and he bubbled us. We grabbed the 'cane and the Drake to eat later.
The 'cane lit a cyno local came alive. Our overviews filled up with a 40 ship fleet: HACs, BCs and Logi bridged in by a titan. They got a cruiser, a destroyer, two frigates and three pods. We took the Sabre in trade and the rest of our fleet made it out safely. Easily a 2 billion, closer to 3 billion ISK fleet. Our fleet? Maybe 400 mil?

OUCH training comes in 2 parts: Null Survival and Basic PvP. Each part is broken into essentially 2 lectures.
After the first 2 lectures, you're ready to go into null sec and explore.
After 3 lectures, you're ready to join our fleets and get some small gang PvP experience with us in Camp Curse.
After 4 lectures, you're ready to graduate, providing you complete our skills test and have participated in 10 real kills.

We've been having a blast flying in Curse, showing new players how to avoid becoming a statistic on someone else's killboard. Our students quickly learn that preparation and situational awareness go a long way to surviving in null sec. Those null sec skills apply in low sec and high sec too.
Lots of corps will tell you that the advantage of learning with them is you learning by doing: they aren't going to bore you with lectures. They'll bring you out to null in the safety of a 5 to 20 man fleet and leave you to your own devices. Unfortunately, outside of the safety of the fleet, you can find yourself all alone trying to figure out how to get home safely.
OUCH teaches a formal program: we lecture, and we teach practical excersises for you to get a greater understanding of the skill set we are trying to pass along to you. Only then do we send you into null sec for you to hone those skills.
Use those skills to fly alone in the depths of null sec space. You won't need the safety in numbers that larger corps use to travel in null.
Now, trial and error works, but it's a much longer road than actively being trained, mentored and coached through our program.
Check us out. Art of War Alliance -á-á Life on the Bubble

Okay, New Guy, let me break this down to you:
NPC null space is like low sec with warp disruptor bubbles and but no security status hits, so where someone might not shoot you in low because there are station or gate guns nearby, they don't worry about that in NPC null:
They just shoot you.
Curse, where OUCH lives, is considered one of the most dangerous regions of null sec in new Eden. You don't have to take my word of it, you can search for Dotlan Maps, Statistics and see for yourself. This week, it's Number 1.
Right now, TRIBE and TEST are two SOV alliances who have come out to Curse to rebuild, refresh, renew themselves? Lots of other SOV alliances and corporations are out here too, trying to get a piece of them. Razor, RED Alliance, Pizza, Black Legion and Pandemic Legion head the list of the more famous.
Since the locals don't like SOV alliances, it's gotten very exciting. Very, very exciting.
And OUCH? We're teaching null survival right smack dab in the middle of it all. Art of War Alliance -á-á Life on the Bubble

There are a lot of corps out there. Universities and academies abound. Most of them will tell you that they are going to teach you. Most of them are just holding corps for rookies so they can filter out the idiots.
Most of those self same corporations will tell you that they won't waste your time with stuffy lectures, they'll point you to some posts someplace and then tell you that you should learn by doing. Have you jump into cruisers with substandard skills and fly in a large gang where you're just a number, or put you in frigate tackle and tell you you're supposed to die in a ball of fire.
We think that they are doing it all wrong.
The road to survival comes much easier in a structured environment, where you get told how to do it, then shown how to do it, take time to practice what you've learned before you go out and prove it to yourself. OUCH has talented instructors who take time out from aggressively pursuing kills on the kill board to take the time to teach new players how to travel in null sec.
We're not telling you learning by doing is impossible. We're just saying that it's a lot easier when your teachers actually teach. Art of War Alliance -á-á Life on the Bubble

Well, my Winter Holiday has just begun and in between revising some training plans, teaching new students, writing a few blog posts, doing some diplomacy, ducking into FW plexes and wormholes looking for trouble, catching a couple of blue roams, doing a hotdrop or three, my plans are generally to Kill More and Die Less in Hard Mode until the New Year.
How 'bout you? :D Art of War Alliance -á-á Life on the Bubble

The classes are well run and with low numbers of students and teach everything you need for survival in null.
You can do it the hard way and just jump into null and die or get these guys to show you the way.
We're glad to have had the opportunity to help you build the confidence for you to play YOUR Eve.
Good luck and thanks for joining us. Art of War Alliance -á-á Life on the Bubble

There was some big fight thingee in HED-GP the other day. Something about nodes overloaded and a bunch of capitals were lost. People are writing CCP complaining that they lost their ship. I guess there some tears on more than one forum.
CCP apologized... I don't understand why. I mean, if playing Eve on the same grid with 2000 of your closest friends breaks the game, maybe you should do small gang PvP instead?
No TiDi. No node crashes. Sounds like much more fun to me, but what do I know?
Anyway, we'll teach you how to get to HED-GP. You have to decide if you really want to jump in there. Art of War Alliance -á-á Life on the Bubble

We have been busy this month. I think we've held a record number of classes held in the last two months. We have lots of new students in the pipeline. We have lots of pilots applying to stay in Operations and pay it forward. Plus more small gang pvp than you can shake a Harpy at.

Since I have come back from Iceland, I've probably spent 80 percent of my time talking to players, young and old, about what OUCH really does.
People look at our killboard and mistake us for a PvP corp. We're not. We're a training corp. We teach null sec survival and basic combat piloting to new and inexperienced players.
We're just a bunch of guys and gals who enjoy taking what we've learned and passing it along.
Don't get me wrong, we like killmails as much as the next guy. But they are much more enjoyable when we get them with students.

We've been busy, 400 ships destroyed by our instructors and students so far this month. It's kind of weird watching major alliances flying 40 man Armor HAC fleets with Archons for Logi, but we're getting used to that.
And of course, we just get out of the way. Really guys? That's a wee bit much for a handful of frigates and assault frigs with EWAR support.

Terribly sorry to have missed this.
We live in Curse, which is a crossroads to null regions in the south. It's dangerous space, but from our perspective, it's pretty safe, mainly because we train to survive out here.
OUCH gets war-decd every so often. But we live mainly in null, so war-decs are more of an inconvenience than a hazard.

Curse is as exciting as expected, with folks looking for opportunities in the south. We've been testing out a new fleet composition, in between our usual training fleets and lecture cycle.
Lots of exciting changes on the horizon, new SOV mechanics are gonna flip people on their heads.
We'll probably just keep doing what we're doing though. Training new people to live in Curse is challenging enough.
